The Parent's Committee
When people progressively lose their hearing and sight the daily network is an important factor. Usually people need to talk to others in the same situation and possibly exchange experiences so they do not feel left alone with the immeasurable challenges.
The parents to a small group of children who are sight and hearing impaired have gotten together in the Danish Association of the DeafBlind’s Parents’ Committee. There they debate how:
- to ensure optimal opportunities for children and young people living with deaf-blindness
- to enforce the dialog between families with deaf-blind children and young people and also to be a support to all who wishes help or guidance regarding deaf-blindness.
- To be heard in cases concerning deaf-blind children and young people.
The Parents’ Committee has local meetings when needed where they discuss challenges in connection with day care centres, schools, free time, assistive technology and so on.
There are arranged seminars originated from the medicinal, administrative and pedagogical world, who all contributes to solving problems for the individual as well as the whole group of deaf-blind children.
Every year there is a weekend course for parents, children and siblings. Here there are scheduled joint activities as well as separate activities for the parents and the children, respectively.
The activities are the basis for an important support and contact between us in the Danish Association of the DeafBlind and the parents to children with deaf-blindness.
Contact FDDB if you want to be a part of the Parent's Committee.
